Treatment Description
Community acupuncture sessions are 30-45 minute treatments conducted in a shared space where patients are seated in chairs (instead of on treatment tables). Each treatment session includes one set of acupuncture needles (with no add-on services such as cupping, moxa, gua sha, herbs, etc) and focuses on addressing one specific complaint per treatment. The needle insertion sites will be limited to the head, ears, and/or limbs (from just above the elbows and knees down to the hands and feet). Hence, we ask that you wear a T-shirt and loose-fitting pants, or a similar attire. Also, please note that this service is available as an out-of-pocket payment only.

The initial community acupuncture session costs $75 for all new patients. During this session, the acupuncturist will assess if you are suitable for our community acupuncture program. If you are a good fit, you can continue your follow-up sessions with your choice of the following price options: a single session priced at $75, a package of 4 sessions for $200, or a package of 8 sessions for $390. If the acupuncturist finds that your case is not well-suited for community acupuncture, we are happy to continue your care with our private treatment option.

If you prefer a longer treatment session in a private room with additional services such as cupping, moxa, gua sha, warm oil, or herbal consultation, you can upgrade to a private treatment session at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is community acupuncture, and why does Kunde offer it?
Community acupuncture is a practice where multiple patients receive acupuncture treatment simultaneously in a shared room. Community acupuncture allows us to make acupuncture more affordable and accessible, thereby broadening our reach to people who may not be able to afford our full, private acupuncture sessions. Also, we endeavor to foster a community spirit and provide a space where friends and family can be treated together. The collective energy of a group setting can enhance the therapeutic experience.

2. Is community acupuncture effective?
Yes! For some people who are the right fit, community acupuncture can be just as effective as a private treatment. Plus, at our affordable rates, you can receive more treatments and thus receive more benefits. Some benefits of acupuncture include alleviating pain and tension, reducing stress and anxiety, improving sleep, increasing energy, and supporting overall health and wellbeing.

3. Do I have to undress in front of other people?
Nope! We practice a style of acupuncture that uses "distal" points, which means we can treat any area of the body by placing tiny needles in your hands and feet. The acupuncture points we typically use are located below the knees and elbows, and on the ears and head. So you won't need to undress. Most people simply come in, get comfortable, take off their shoes, roll up their sleeves and pants, and relax during the treatment session.

4. So, what happens during the initial treatment?
On the day of your first treatment, we ask that you wear a comfortable T-shirt and loose pants, or a similar attire that allows us to insert needles in the following body areas: head, ears, and limbs (from slightly above the elbows and knees to the hands and feet). Then you will be seated on a chair for the acupuncture treatment. Our acupuncturist will discuss your health concerns with you, formulate a treatment plan, and then determine if you are a good fit for the Community Acupuncture Membership (CAM) for your follow-up sessions. Regardless of whether you are a good fit for the community acupuncture, you will still receive an acupuncture treatment this initial session at the same $75 rate.

5. How does the acupuncturist determine whether someone is a good fit for the community acupuncture program?
Every individual is unique and has different health care needs. Therefore, the screening is performed on a case-by-case basis. Generally, community acupuncture is most suitable for patients with only 1 or a few health concerns, who respond well to “distal” acupuncture style, and are good with sharing a treatment space with other patients.  Patients with a complicated medical history as well as those who require more time, help or privacy will likely be referred to our private acupuncture option.

6. What if I am not a good fit for the community acupuncture program?
No worries! We will still be happy to continue your care in our private acupuncture sessions. Private acupuncture appointments are open to ALL patients for both initial and follow-up sessions!

7. Which is better: community acupuncture or private acupuncture?
It really depends on what you’re looking for in a treatment session. See Table 1 above for the comparison chart between the two acupuncture options. In a nutshell, if you want a relatively quick and affordable treatment in a shared room where you don’t have to remove your clothes, community acupuncture may be right for you. However, if you prefer a longer treatment time where you can lie down on a treatment table in your own private room while you and your acupuncturist discuss your health concerns in depth, then private acupuncture is the better option for you.

If you are unsure, feel free to give us a call and speak to one of our representatives for more information. You are also welcome to try both community and private acupuncture sessions and see which option you prefer.
