Sang-bom Therapy | ཟངས་བུམ།

copper cupping or glass cupping
Services > Tibetan Medicine > Sang-bom Therapy

What is Sang-bom?

Sang-bom (Copper ཟངས་བུམ། or Glass ཤེལ་བུམ། Cupping) has been used as one of the external therapeutic treatment methods in Tibetan Medicine and Acupuncture practice for thousands of years in Tibet as well as other parts of world. The function of the cupping is to alleviate acute or chronic pain by improving the Loong (Qi and Blood) circulation in the channels of body as well as reducing stress and managing cold syndromes.

Benefits of Sang-bom

The Sang-Bom cups can be made of many different materials.  The ones we use in KUNDE’s clinic are made of copper and glass. The copper cupping releases more tension and stress of emotional and mental imbalances, and the glass cupping works better with acute pain and chronic muscular and skeletal pain as well as the treatment of other cold syndromes.

It can be a little uncomfortable while the cups are being put on because a suction is created by the cups on the skin. The cups may leave red or purplish bruise on the skin, but it will disappear in a few days. In severe case, it may cause some blisters, but it will dry out in a few days as well.

The practitioner will always let you know before beginning this treatment. This procedure is never done without informing the patient first.

Sang-bom is excellent for the following conditions:
Pain in tendons, muscles, and bones in the neck, back, shoulders, and legs
Headache and dizziness
Coughing, asthma, or early stage of catching cold with running nose
Digestive issue
Menstrual cramps

**Sang-bom is contraindicated for the following conditions:
Pregnancy
Elderly
Emaciated patients
Skin Ulcers

Dermatitis
